Hyderabad, September 2026 : The Congress party has announced its candidates for the upcoming biennial elections to two Graduates’ constituencies of the Telangana Legislative Council.
Sama Rammohan Reddy will contest from the Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad Graduates’ constituency, while Ramreddy Sarvotham Reddy has been named the party’s candidate for the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Graduates’ constituency.
The nominations were approved by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, according to a statement issued by AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal on Tuesday night.
The announcement comes shortly after the voter enrolment process began in the two Graduates’ constituencies. The process commenced on Monday with the publication of the public notice under Rule 31(3) of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960.
Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharsan Reddy has appealed to all eligible graduates to register themselves as voters for the elections.
The electoral rolls for both constituencies will be prepared afresh, with November 1, 2026, designated as the qualifying date. Graduates who were registered as voters in previous elections will also have to complete the registration process again.
The Election Commission of India has announced that two vacancies in the Telangana Legislative Council are due to arise in March 2027. The vacancies will be filled through biennial elections.
Under the eligibility criteria, an applicant must have obtained a degree or an equivalent diploma at least three years before the qualifying date. The applicant must also be an ordinary resident of the area falling within the concerned Graduates’ constituency.
According to the election schedule announced by the Election Commission, the draft electoral rolls will be published on November 25, 2026, while the final electoral rolls are scheduled to be published on December 30.
Meanwhile, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K.T. Rama Rao registered his vote in Hyderabad on Monday as part of the ongoing enrolment process.
KTR appealed to all eligible graduates in the two constituencies where the elections are scheduled to be held to register themselves as voters and exercise their franchise.
He urged eligible graduates to complete the prescribed application form and finish the voter registration process before November 6.
Emphasising the importance of participation in the Graduates’ MLC elections, KTR said every vote would be significant and called upon eligible graduates to ensure that their names were included in the electoral rolls.
The upcoming elections will determine representatives from the two important Graduates’ constituencies in the Telangana Legislative Council. With the fresh electoral rolls being prepared, eligible graduates are required to complete the registration process within the stipulated period to participate in the election.
