IIM Nagpur’s Media Conclave 2026 concludes
Nagpur, September 2026: India is known as a “nation of young people,” and the youth of today are the country’s true strength. If young Indians combine their high intellectual capabilities and the nation’s rich cultural heritage with strong ethical values, they can play a crucial role in building a developed India by 2047, Maharashtra Information Technology and Cultural Affairs Minister Advocate Ashish Shelar said here on Sunday.
The minister was speaking at the concluding session of the two-day ‘Media Conclave 2026’ organised at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur. Reviewing the key ideas and discussions held during various sessions of the conclave, Shelar brought the event to a meaningful conclusion.
Shelar said the world today views India as a centre of future energy, talent and development. He stressed that young people must remain alert, analytical and committed to ethical values, without falling prey to any kind of temptation or inducement.
India Has the Potential to Become the Best in the World
Shelar said India has the potential to emerge as one of the world’s leading nations, but its strengths must be given the right direction. For this, he stressed the importance of practising the principles of culture, media, technology and leadership.
Describing the conclave theme, ‘Media, Leadership and the New World Order,’ as highly relevant and reflective of the needs of the times, Shelar offered students four guiding principles for responsible communication.
He urged them to communicate not merely to attract people’s attention but to foster mutual understanding; to understand an issue thoroughly before speaking about it; to verify the authenticity of information before disseminating it; and to consider the human purpose behind technology before using it.
The minister underlined that ethical values are the common thread connecting media, leadership and the emerging global order. No matter how advanced technology becomes, he said, its central focus must remain human welfare, responsibility and the larger social good.
Youth Can Shape India’s Global Image
Amit Waiker, a recipient of the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award, entrepreneur and cultural activist, delivered the keynote address on ‘Beyond Borders: How India Communicates with the World.’
Waiker said today’s Indian youth are the country’s most influential global communicators. “India communicates with the world through you,” he told the students, urging them to become ambassadors of India’s international image.
He said India’s identity cannot be confined merely to its diverse colours, music, literature, languages and cultural traditions. Recalling his experience of organising a public blood donation camp during his stay in China, Waiker said that selfless service and the trust it generates represent India’s true strength on the global stage.
IIM Nagpur’s Contribution to Society
IIM Nagpur Director Dr Bhimaraya Metri briefed participants about various initiatives undertaken by the institution. He said IIM Nagpur is not merely preparing skilled human resources for the future but is also actively working with the Central and Maharashtra governments towards the comprehensive development of the state and the country.
He highlighted the institute’s memoranda of understanding with various government departments and institutions, people-centric projects and initiatives aimed at serving society through knowledge, research and innovation.
Educationists, professors, government officials, students, industry representatives and media professionals attended the event.
The two-day Media Conclave 2026 featured extensive discussions on a range of subjects, including media, leadership, artificial intelligence, public communication, development journalism, health awareness, Hindi-language media and India’s global image.
