Mumbai, Sept 2026 : Maharashtra Animal Husbandry Minister Pankaja Munde said the state’s newly announced Fodder Development Policy will ensure a more robust and sustainable supply of fodder for livestock across Maharashtra.
The policy was announced at the state Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Munde said the decision was an important step towards strengthening livestock-related activities and supporting the rural economy.
The Cabinet took several important decisions aimed at planned development and the overall progress of Maharashtra. The Fodder Development Policy focuses on ensuring adequate availability of fodder required for the state’s livestock population.
The policy provides for district-wise fodder production planning, identification of suitable grass varieties and fodder-producing trees, improved fodder crops, and the use of both traditional and non-traditional fodder sources. It also includes planning and implementation of various government schemes aimed at promoting fodder development.
Munde said the policy would provide significant support to allied agricultural activities such as animal husbandry and dairy farming. She expressed confidence that the initiative would strengthen these sectors and give a new direction to the rural economy.
The policy is expected to encourage systematic fodder production and improve the availability of feed for livestock, particularly by promoting diverse fodder sources and better planning at the district level.
Minister Attends Drought Review Meeting
Munde also attended a review meeting of the sub-committee constituted to suggest measures to address drought-like conditions in various parts of Maharashtra. The meeting was held at Mantralaya under the chairmanship of Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule.
The meeting reviewed the situation arising from inadequate rainfall in different parts of the state. Discussions focused on water scarcity, crop losses, availability of fodder and the assistance required by citizens and farmers in drought-affected areas.
The officials and ministers also held detailed discussions on possible measures to tackle the situation and provide necessary relief to affected communities and farmers.
Munde said that ensuring adequate fodder availability, along with addressing water scarcity and crop losses, remains an important aspect of supporting livestock owners and farmers during difficult weather conditions.
