Rescue techniques, from saving drowning people to operating motorboats, being taught
Five-day training programme includes village watchmen, fishermen, divers and skilled swimmers
Bilaspur, October 2026: To prevent loss of life during natural disasters such as floods and ensure prompt relief and rescue operations, the district administration is preparing a team of Jal Mitras at the local level. For this purpose, 57 village watchmen, fishermen, divers and skilled swimmers selected from various subdivisions and tehsils of the district are being given special training.
The objective of the training is to enable trained local personnel to launch immediate rescue operations during emergencies and ensure timely assistance reaches those in need.
A five-day training programme is being conducted from October 26 to 30 at the Firefighting, Emergency Services and SDRF Training Centre in Parsada. Participants are receiving practical training in various flood-rescue techniques.
The training covers the operation of motorboats fitted with outboard motors (OBMs), safely rescuing people from drowning, different swimming techniques, and the proper use of life jackets and lifebuoys. Participants are also being familiarised with the equipment and materials used in relief and rescue operations.
Through this initiative, the district administration aims to develop a team of Jal Mitras capable of responding swiftly to emergencies such as floods and waterlogging and playing a crucial role in saving lives.
The availability of a locally trained rescue team will strengthen the district’s disaster management system. The trainees, too, are enthusiastically learning the various rescue techniques.
